Authorities in Prayagraj are gearing up for the upcoming Maha Shivratri festival on the last day of the Maha Kumbh, which is expected to attract a large influx of devotees. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna said that 13 FIRs have been filed against 140 social media handles disseminating misleading content to combat the spread of misinformation.
Krishna assured the public that comprehensive arrangements are in place for the Maha Shivratri festival on February 26, 2025, which is the final day of the Maha Kumbh. These measures aim to prevent traffic congestion and ensure the smooth operation of all arrangements, regardless of the crowd size.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that 620 million devotees have visited the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Anticipating a further surge in attendees for Maha Shivratri, authorities have implemented extensive crowd control measures at Ayodhya Dham Railway Station. Deputy Superintendent of Police Yashwant Singh explained that devotees will only be granted access to platforms upon train arrival.
Security measures have been significantly enhanced, with over 350 personnel deployed. Barricading and a designated holding area have been established to manage the flow of passengers efficiently and ensure platform capacity is not exceeded. Regular train announcements are being made to keep passengers informed, further contributing to the smooth and safe execution of the event.
Prayagraj, the host city for the Maha Kumbh, has been experiencing heavy traffic as devotees continue to arrive to take part in the religious gathering at the Triveni Sangam.
When the Maha Kumbh began, the government had anticipated a footfall of 45 crore people, but the count has already surpassed the 60-crore mark.
Notably, government officials said that the count of devotees is expected to cross 65 crore mark by the final snan on February 26. The Kumbh Mela began on January 13.
