In the past, limited access to information led many individuals to seek treatment from unqualified practitioners, often referred to as ‘quack doctors’ who lacked formal medical training and relied on anecdotal evidence and word-of-mouth testimonials to attract patients.
Over time, as people became more knowledgeable, the deceptive practices of these individuals were exposed. In urban areas, individuals usually prioritise a doctor’s qualifications and experience before entrusting them with their health.
However, in rural communities, numerous unqualified practitioners and fraudulent spiritual leaders persist, exploiting the vulnerability of unsuspecting individuals. A recent example of such deceit has gained significant attention on social media.
In a viral video, parents were seen taking their daughter to one such practitioner for treatment. The young girl had been experiencing a stomach ache for an extended period. When conventional medicine failed to provide relief, the couple, instead of consulting a medical expert, chose to take their daughter to a fraudulent and unqualified practitioner.
Under the pretence of treatment, the man was seen inappropriately touching the girl’s chest in front of her parents. In the viral video, the girl’s distress is palpable. However, her parents, seemingly blinded by superstition, were oblivious to their daughter’s plight.
This video has sparked public outrage, with calls for action against the purported practitioner. It has also drawn criticism towards the parents for their perceived failure to protect their daughter’s dignity.
