A Delhi-bound American Airlines flight that took off from New York (AA 292) was diverted to Rome on Sunday following a “bomb threat”.
The airline issued a statement but did not directly confirm reports on social media that claimed that there was a bomb threat, saying that the flight was diverted “due to a potential security threat onboard”.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner had taken off from New York on the evening of February 22 and was flying over the Caspian Sea, according to a report by the Times Of India.
“AA 292, operating from New York to Delhi, has been diverted to Rome due to a potential security threat onboard. We are working closely with local authorities and will provide updates as the situation develops. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our passengers,” the airline said in a statement.
