1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Case: Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted for killing a father-son duo during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, has been awarded life imprisonment by a Delhi court on Tuesday.
The prosecution had called it a “rarest of rare” case and argued that Kumar’s actions amounted to “mass genocide” of a particular community. However, the court disagreed with the prosecutors.
Ahead of the verdict, Kumar – who is already serving a life sentence in another anti-Sikh riots case in Delhi Cantt – had argued that there was no ground for a death penalty against him, citing his advanced age and good conduct behind bars.
