Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who was admitted to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, was discharged on Friday, February 21.
She was admitted here last morning after complaints related to stomach-related issues. She underwent a routine check-up at the hospital.
“Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi this morning at 8:30 am due to stomach-related issues. She underwent a routine check-up and is now stable and is under observation,” the hospital said in an official statement.
Gandhi, who turned 78 in December 2024, made the most recent public appearance last week when she attended the Rajya Sabha during the Budget session of Parliament.
Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party and a Rajya Sabha member, has been struggling with illness for an extended period, leading her to reduce her involvement in political activities.
She chose not to contest the Lok Sabha elections last year, and her son, Rahul Gandhi, emerged victorious from Rae Bareli, a seat she had represented since 2004.
In September 2024, Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital due to a mild fever. In March 2024 also, she was admitted to the hospital due to ill health. However, a day later a medical bulletin was issued stating that she was completely healthy.
