Indore is ranked as the cleanest city in India, followed by Surat and Navi Mumbai, according to the latest data from the Swachh Survekshan survey. Conducted annually by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the survey aims to promote a cleaner and healthier urban environment.
Swachh Survekshan is the world’s largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey and was first launched in 2016. It evaluates cities based on citizen feedback, on-site inspections, certifications, and their waste management practices.
As part of the government’s initiative to encourage cleaner cities, Swachh Survekshan has been instrumental in fostering competition among towns and cities to improve sanitation services. The cities are ranked based on their cleanliness, waste management, and the participation of their residents in cleanliness drives.
