As the Indian cricket team thrashed arch-rival Pakistan comprehensively in the ICC Champions Trophy encounter on Sunday, congratulatory messages flooded in from political leaders, including from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Star player Virat Kohli’s century and Shreyas Iyer’s half-century steered India to an emphatic victory against Pakistan in the mega clash, which has strengthened India’s chances into the semis. Batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan had set a target of 242 runs for India who chased it down in 42.3 overs at the loss of 4 wickets.
“An electrifying performance!! Well played Team India. You have made everyone proud by living up to the expectations of millions of cricket fans around the world. All my best wishes for your future matches,” Shah posted on X.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated the team and also shared a video of former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik singing “Dil ke armaan aansuo mein beh gaye“.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari congratulated the team and Virat Kohli for the special show and wished them the best to bring the cup back home.

India had last won the Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in England.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal congratulated Kohli on going past 14,000 runs in ODI cricket.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi hailed the “glorious win” of the team against Pakistan.
“Epic triumph for Team India! A masterclass in teamwork and resilience, with Kohli’s century leading the charge. A glorious win for every heart that beats for Indian cricket,” he tweeted.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated the team for victory in the “prestige match”.
“Feeling happy at the emphatic win of our boys today over Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Congratulations to the India Team for the sweeping victory in the prestige match!” she posted on X.
